SHERIFF

Leader, spokesman, and political figure of the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff of Blaine County is the highest-ranking member in the Department and is responsible for the department as a whole. They must listen to and implement features to improve the department and have the final say on all issues.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Department overseer and face of the department

  • Managerial and clerical duties which includes:

    1. Oversight on department related PSD complaints

    2. Oversight on warrant paperwork in big cases

  • Review patrol logs

  • Overseeing hiring and training of deputies

  • Answering media questions

  • Distribution and allocation of department budget

CHIEF DEPUTY

2nd in command and works directly with the Sheriff to plan, direct, and manage operational excellence in the department. Chief Deputy works to oversee the departments, hiring, firing, disciplinary actions, and training standards. Is also a resource to assist in the field for high confrontational situations.

The Chief Deputy is responsible for running the administrative side of the department. As well as updating the Sheriff on department activities and major concerns within the department and overseeing Command Staff Operations. In the Sheriff's absence, he is responsible for many other duties associated with the Office of Sheriff.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Direct and act as overseer for the Sheriff’s Office in the following capacities:

    1. Operations

    2. Professional Standards

    3. Administrative work

  • Communicate and update procedures as needed

  • Responsible for complex administrative support to the Sheriff

  • Oversight and development of training programs and activities that take place in the Sheriff’s office.

  • Evaluation of service delivery methods and procedures while monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness. Making revisions where necessary.

  • Assess and monitor work load

  • Oversight of support systems

  • Overseeing department promotions

  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new deputies.

MAJOR

The Major oversees the divisions within a department. The duties that are assigned to this rank include, overseeing overall operations of particular divisions, ensuring that all neccessary staff and equipment is present to carry out the task and report to the higher ranks about all the developments within the divisions. A Major is a highest-ranking officer within the department who does not hold an administrative position. They report to the command staff about the progress of any and all supervisors, sub-divisions, patrol units, department policy, and much more. The will often oversee large patrols and can deal with any issues brought to them by other Senior Staff members without following the chain of command unless they deem it necessary.

CAPTAIN

The Captain is in charge of day-to-day patrol operations in the city/county. A Captain is the first rank in the Senior Staff team and is responsible for assessing and watching Lieutenants and other supervisors. They must report back to higher command regarding disciplinary actions that need to be taken and have a major input in decisions made that directly affect members. At this rank, officers are now eligible to be watch commanders for the department in the absence of higher command.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Patrol operations overseer:

    1. Plans, communicates, and manages the areas of patrol in the state.

  • Workload oversight and assigning patrols to deputies.

  • Oversight of all department procedures while in the field

  • Interview and assist in onboarding new deputies

  • Act as direct supervisor of Lieutenants
