After observing a traffic or vehicle violation, you will want to attempt to get behind the vehicle and Activate the lights and siren in a location that you believe is safest to conduct the traffic stop.
The safest places that you can conduct a traffic stop are the following:
-Open areas
-Parking lots
-Side of the roads
-Public areas
Once you have picked a safe area to conduct the traffic stop you will need to radio into dispatch and give the following information:
-Location of final stopping position
-Number of occupants
-unusual or suspicious activity
-if the backup is needed or not needed
Now that you have informed dispatch you are free to exit the vehicle and approach the driver door. When approaching you should watch the occupants for any sudden movement that looks like they are going for a gun. When arriving at the door, have the driver roll down their window if they can. Once they have their window down and you are able to communicate, introduce yourself with your rank and last name. Inform the driver to turn off the vehicle. Then ask the driver for their driver's license and registration or insurance.( do not have) Once they have provided the correct information for you ask the driver if he knows why you have pulled him over. Now when that ends head back to the cruiser where you will confirm the information he handed you and check for warrants. At this time you will need to decide if you are going to be given a ticket or jail time depending on the charge. Once all is finished, go back to the car and finish the traffic stop.
Viewer Discretion is Advised. Train for the worst day of your life, you never know when it may happen.
