Keep communications short, concise, and to the point! Only use the radio when necessary and unnecessary chatter should be kept to a minimum. The sheriffs office is more keen to using plain speak, however if you may decide to use 10 codes. Below is a short list of 10 codes that we use daily at the Sheriffs Office.

Code Response

Code responses will be used depending on the call that is coming in. high priority calls will need to be answered using code 3 response. When accepting the 911 calls and going code 1,2,3 you will still need to clear intersections by slowing down and hitting your horn at each section. This will allow the public to know your presence and that you are crossing.

Code 1 - No Lights and Sirens Code 2 - Lights Only (Sirens as needed ie: clearing intersections) Code 3 - Lights and Sirens Code 4 - Situation under control
